it was hit and miss. the vibe was cool. but small annoyances like no iced tea and warm prosecco, gave way too much bigger one: a seafood omelet that promised lump crab was nade with flake, which any marylander will spot immediately. I would have returned it. the chicken and waffle. and the brioche French toast were outstanding. the chesapeake flavor was incredible, but it was a giant bowl of stew with grits mixed in, not a deal breaker but not seafood served on grits. Finally, 20% added to a check of 4, which is unfortunate as we usually tip 30%. Uneven brunch with brilliant bits, but certainly needs to be tightened up for a $310 brunch.

I really wanted to love this restaurant. The ambience was beautiful, and things started off on the right foot. We had a 7:45 reservation, were seated promptly, and were even offered complimentary champagne when we walked in. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended.
My husband and I planned a date night here, but the experience quickly went downhill due to the service. We ordered the fries with crab as an appetizer. They were decent, but for a place with such high prices, I expected a more impressive presentation and flavor. I also ordered a lychee martini only to be told they were out of the lychee fruit, which was disappointing. My husband ordered a Coke, and we later discovered we were charged for all three refills, something I’ve never encountered for fountain soda, especially considering we waited over an hour for our main courses.
For our entrées, he ordered the crab fried rice with salmon, and I chose the fried lobster jollof. What should have been an exciting meal turned into an extremely long wait. About 45–50 minutes into waiting, still with no food, a manager finally came by to apologize, offering free alcoholic drinks and 20% off the bill. While the gesture was appreciated, it didn’t make up for the frustration, especially with entrées priced at $50+. We had been patient, but we watched tables around us get their food before us despite being told the kitchen was “a little backed up.” We waited about 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food. This is unacceptable.
When the food finally arrived, it was yet another letdown. My fried lobster was extremely salty, and while the jollof rice was flavorful, my husband’s crab fried rice was mushy. At this price point, the quality and service should be consistent, and they simply weren’t.
Overall, the ambience was lovely, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the poor service, long wait times, unexpected charges, and disappointing food. Sadly, I don’t think we’ll be returning.

Made my way to 1123 since honcho house is temporarily closed and was pleasantly surprised by the food, service and atmosphere. My coworker and I were greeted by the hosted with complimentary champagne and great energy! We were seated quickly at a booth and ordered the wagyu cheesesteak eggrolls, mambo wings and sake. Our waitress was pretty friendly and checked on us to make sure we were satisfied. It got pretty busy but the service was great, food was flavorful and hot and the drinks were delicious. I will definitely be back for more.

The venue exuded a charming ambiance with its warm lighting and rustic decor, creating a cozy atmosphere ideal for casual gatherings. However, while the food was decent, it could have greatly benefited from a bit more seasoning to elevate the flavors. Among the offerings, the fried deviled eggs stood out as a unique choice; however, their oiliness somewhat masked the vibrant blend of flavors that could have shone through. To my disappointment, the menu lacked any vegetable options, focusing primarily on a selection of rice dishes, which felt limiting for those seeking a more well-rounded meal.
We were seated in a small booth tucked away in the back, conveniently adjacent to a private dining room and close to the bathroom. This placement resulted in a constant flow of patrons walking past our table, maneuvering through the narrow corridor to reach either the restroom or the private area, which interrupted the intimacy of our dining experience.
The doors leading to the private room displayed noticeable grease stains, which detracted from the polished appearance that had been so carefully curated on their Instagram page. Though I had made an advance reservation, our arrival saw us initially seated at the bar the only option they could provide until our table was ready. Better seats were available, but we were informed we couldn’t occupy them because a large party was expected shortly. When that party arrived, they were seated in the private room instead.
While the host was friendly and welcoming, our waiter did not meet my expectations in terms of attentive service. Despite highlighting during the reservation that we were celebrating a special occasion and requesting a “Happy Birthday” song, this request was unfortunately overlooked. Nevertheless, our waiter performed well in serving us throughout the meal.
Overall, I would characterize the restaurant more as a bar with a handful of dining tables rather than a fine dining establishment. It certainly did not evoke the vibe of a five-star venue and, regrettably, didn't justify the effort or travel expended to reach it.

Came here for a solo date. I ordered the mac & cheese with oxtail. It was very good. I visit many restaurants in the DMV and this is one of my favorites now. I also tried 3 different drinks and they were all good. 😊 The service was great too.
I was very satisfied with everything. Definitely 5/5.

I had brunch at 1123 by Chef Tobias for Mother’s Day and was left very satisfied. This was an amazing choice. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the host in a friendly manner who was then informed that we had a reservation. We were seated right away. The atmosphere and decor was beautiful. Our waitress was Alise and she was amazing. She was very friendly, answered any questions about the dishes and provided recommendations. We ordered the Chicken Fried Deviled Eggs as an appetizer which was so delicious. We also ordered the Churro Waffle & Korean Fried Chicken, The Chesapeake and Fish & Grits. Every dish was amazing. We had no complaints. The service was awesome! We will be returning sooner than later!

I’ve been wanting to check out 1123 by Chef Tobias for a while, ever since dining at Huncho House just across the street a little over a year ago. 1123 is an Asian fusion restaurant that delivers bold flavors and a great vibe. We made reservations in advance, and I’m glad we did because Chef Tobias was just voted Best Chef in Maryland, and it’s easy to see why.
From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a small glass of champagne, the same thoughtful welcome gesture Huncho House is known for. It’s such a classy touch that sets the tone for a fantastic dining experience.
The menu is packed with tempting options, so we decided to share several appetizers to try a little of everything. The unexpected standout was the house salad — yes, the salad! It was so good we had a whole conversation about it. The mix of roasted tomatoes, charred corn, banana peppers, spring mix, and cilantro lime vinaigrette created a burst of bright, layered flavor.
We also tried the spiced broccolini, black garlic soy sticky ribs with tender, fall-off-the-bone meat, crispy cauliflower, Wagyu cheesesteak egg rolls, and bang bang shrimp tacos on wonton shells. Every dish was seasoned perfectly and packed with flavor.
The ambience was stylish but comfortable, with great music and friendly service. The dining room feels intimate, and the energy is just right for a night out.
We were celebrating my birthday, so we ended with a passionfruit yuzu gelato. It was refreshing and light, though not particularly memorable compared to the rest of the meal.
I’ll definitely be back to try more, especially the deviled eggs, snow crab pasta, and scallops with crab risotto.

This may have been my best dinner experience all year. I am so thankful to have finally tried one of Chef Tobias’s restaurants. I’ve followed his journey on the Food Network and his inspiring recovery after a horrific experience last year.
I’m truly grateful to have enjoyed such a fantastic dinner and overall experience at 1123. I think very highly of Chef Tobias and pray he continues to succeed in all his endeavors. He is incredibly talented, and his food speaks volumes.
I made the reservation while attending a work conference, not realizing it fell on the anniversary of what must have been a very difficult day for Chef Tobias. It was inspiring to see him continue to push forward and create art through his food. I also appreciated getting the chance to speak with him for a few minutes—it meant the world to me.
If I could give out James Beard or Michelin stars, this restaurant and Chef Tobias would certainly receive them. I will absolutely be recommending this place for its food, ambiance, excellent service, and amazing vibes.

1123 has a nice, simple décor and the service was excellent—everyone on the team checked in on us. Our large party was seated in a private space, though the lounge-style sectional mixed with tables felt a bit awkward. Appetizers were okay (the ribs were good), but the entrées were the good oxtails, lobster jollof( the rice wasn’t spicy) , wings, and sides all came out hot with big portions. Drinks were great. Overall, a good experience.

1123 Chief Tobias – Ambiance Hits, Food Misses
Atmosphere & Service
Walking into 1123 Chief Tobias feels like slipping into a stylish, low-lit lounge. The décor carries a subtle Asian influence—dim lighting, cozy square booths (though I’d love if those tables were a bit bigger), and several TVs playing movies here and there. It’s a vibe that’s both relaxed and visually engaging.
There’s also a full bar with a friendly bartender ready to mix a drink, plus a few intimate tables tucked away for two—great for quiet conversations.
Right when we stepped in, a hostess greeted us and offered a discount on parking—a thoughtful touch for downtown Hyattsville. While we waited (and waited) for our appetizers, they handed us popcorn—a cute, cinematic snack that made the wait somewhat bearable. The waitress did her best to accommodate us and this may have been the best of the experience.
The Letdown: Food Quality & Beverage
Now, for the disappointment. My colleagues and I had been looking forward to this evening all week, especially me, hoping for a variety of pescatarian dishes. Unfortunately, we were told Chef Tobias wasn’t in that night and the menu was significantly scaled back.
The only bright spots were the Vegetable Spring Rolls, Chicken Fried Deviled Eggs, and a drink or two—plus the crab fries, which sounded promising but fell flat: soggy fries drenched in bland, watery mayonnaise.
For entrees: one colleague had the Oxtails, another the Shrimp TSO, and I ordered the Lobster Jollof Rice. Sadly, all three dishes came out painfully unseasoned, missing the bold, diverse flavors I’d hoped for. We were hungry, hopeful—but thoroughly unsatisfied. The evening ended with us grabbing takeout from a place nearby instead.
Overall Verdict:
Ambiance & Service: 4 / 5
The décor, cozy booths, movie TVs, bar setup, parking perk, and popcorn gesture—these elements hit all the right notes for a fun, date-night vibe.
Food Quality & Menu Variety: 1.5 / 5
With the chef out and a limited menu, even the dishes that sounded promising lacked the seasoning and creativity you'd expect from a spot like this. The entrees, especially, felt rushed and uninspired.
Would I Go Back?
Maybe—if Chef Tobias is in, the menu is full, and cooking standards hold up. Otherwise, it’s hard to justify a dinner that left us still hungry and costing almost $300 dollars.
